One of the major reasons why i regret getting a puppy is the unforeseen time commitment that comes with it. When i first got the dog, i didnt realize just how much time and effort it would take to properly care for him. First of all, puppies require constant attention and supervision. Youre still strangers to each other and you still have an adolescent dog. Time together will lead to bonding, maturity, and acceptance.
I didn't like dogs but caved and got one. Getting through the puppy stage and toilet training was a nightmare and took longer than expected. I had regrets, to put it mildly. For me, after my babies were born, my dogs were suddenly just dogs, not my fur babies anymore. I still love them but now im thinking i dont want dogs for several years. It sounds harsh but my dogs are spoiled (i feel like this makes me sound like a bad pet mom). There are rescue dogs who have come from horrible abuse and have happy lives rehomed, so your dog can certainly be happy rehomed. It sounds to me like you're not ready for a dog.
